How this JEE Main college predictor works

The predictor compares your rank with the official JoSAA closing ranks of the latest completed counselling year, using the final round. Final-round closing ranks are the last rank admitted to each programme, so they show the widest realistic range. Every programme, quota, seat type and gender pool you are eligible for is checked, and the most favourable match for each programme is shown.

  • High chance: your rank is within 80% of last year’s closing rank.
  • Good chance: your rank is at or better than last year’s closing rank.
  • Borderline: your rank is up to 15% beyond the closing rank. These seats sometimes open up in later rounds or CSAB, but plan for them as stretch choices.

Which rank should I enter?

  • JEE Main CRL rank: your Common Rank List rank from the NTA scorecard. It is used for OPEN seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.
  • Category rank: if you are EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST, also enter your category rank. Reserved seats close on category ranks, not CRL ranks. PwD candidates should enter their PwD rank here.
  • JEE Advanced rank: IIT seats are allotted only on JEE Advanced ranks. Add it if you have qualified; without it, IITs are not shown.

Why your home state matters

NITs reserve 50% of seats for candidates from their own state (Home State quota). The other half is Other State quota. Home State seats often close at much higher ranks, so a rank that misses NIT cutoffs elsewhere can still get a good branch in your own state. Your home state is the state where you passed Class 12, not where you live. A few institutes use special quotas for Goa, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh candidates, which the predictor also applies.

Female-only (supernumerary) seats

Female candidates compete for both gender-neutral seats and female-only supernumerary seats. Female-only seats usually close at noticeably higher ranks, so select Female to see these extra options.

Limitations

Closing ranks change every year with seat matrix changes, new programmes, applicant numbers and choice-filling behaviour. Use these results to build a sensible choice list with safe, likely and stretch options, not as a guarantee of admission. Always confirm seat matrices and rules on josaa.nic.in.

Is this college predictor free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and uses official JoSAA closing ranks.

Which year’s data does the college predictor use?

The final round of the latest completed JoSAA counselling (2026). College pages also show 2024 and 2025 for trends.

Does the predictor include IITs?

Yes, if you enter a JEE Advanced rank. IIT seats are allotted only on JEE Advanced rank.

Why should I enter my home state?

NITs reserve half their seats for candidates from their own state, and those seats usually close at much higher ranks. Entering your state shows these extra options.

Does it cover state counselling like JAC Delhi?

No. It covers JoSAA (IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs). For DTU, NSUT, IP University and state colleges, see our state admissions guides.
