Quick answer
Start with NCERT Class 11 and 12 for all three subjects: JEE Main questions, especially in Chemistry, are built on them. Then add one standard problem book per subject (for example H.C. Verma for Physics, O.P. Tandon or N. Awasthi for Chemistry, and a Cengage or Arihant series for Mathematics) and finish with chapter-wise previous-year papers. More books do not mean more marks; finishing a few properly does.
How we chose these books
These are the books most consistently recommended by JEE teachers for building concepts and practice, grouped by what they are good for. We do not list a book because of a commission, and for each one we say who can skip it. Use the edition matching the current syllabus, and check the table of contents before buying.

| Concepts of Physics, H.C. Verma (Vol 1 and 2) | Clear concepts with good-quality exercises | You are already comfortable with a coaching module of similar depth | Amazon |
| Understanding Physics series, D.C. Pandey | Large volume of JEE-style practice by chapter | You have little time; one problem book is enough | Amazon |
| Problems in General Physics, I.E. Irodov | Hard problems for JEE Advanced aspirants | You are targeting JEE Main only | Amazon |
Chemistry
| Book | Best for | Skip if | |
|---|---|---|---|
| NCERT Chemistry, Class 11 and 12 | Inorganic and organic facts; many JEE Main questions come straight from it | Never skip | Amazon |
| O.P. Tandon (Physical, Organic, Inorganic) | Theory and practice in one series | Your coaching material already covers this depth | Amazon |
| Physical Chemistry, N. Awasthi | Numerical practice in Physical Chemistry | Physical Chemistry is already your strong area | Amazon |
| Advanced Problems in Organic Chemistry, M.S. Chouhan | Organic problem practice, especially for JEE Advanced | You are targeting JEE Main only and short on time | Amazon |
Mathematics
| Book | Best for | Skip if | |

Previous-year papers
A chapter-wise collection of JEE Main previous-year questions is the single most useful book in the last three months. Solve them chapter by chapter after finishing each topic, then as full timed papers. Official papers and answer keys are also published by NTA. Browse PYQ books
Which books for your stage
| Stage | Focus |
|---|---|
| Starting Class 11 | NCERT plus one concept book per subject (for example H.C. Verma for Physics). Build habits, not a library. |
| Class 12 (boards and JEE) | NCERT for boards and Chemistry facts, your main problem book, and chapter-wise PYQs as you finish each chapter. |
| Dropper | Revise from your existing notes, one problem book per subject for weak chapters, and many full mocks. |
| Last 60–90 days | NCERT revision (especially Chemistry), PYQs and timed mock tests. Avoid starting new books. |

Is NCERT enough for JEE Main?
NCERT is essential, especially for Chemistry, but most students need one additional problem book per subject and previous-year papers to reach a good percentile.
Which is the best Physics book for JEE Main?
After NCERT, H.C. Verma’s Concepts of Physics is the most widely recommended for concepts, with D.C. Pandey for extra practice.
How many books should I use for JEE?
Ideally NCERT plus one main problem book per subject and a previous-year paper collection. Finishing fewer books properly beats skimming many.
Which books are needed for JEE Advanced?
The same core books, plus harder problem sets such as I.E. Irodov for Physics and M.S. Chouhan for Organic Chemistry, and JEE Advanced previous-year papers.
