Methodology: How Our Tools and Data Work

Updated

This page explains the data and calculations behind JEEInfo’s tools and tables, so you can judge how much to rely on them.

JoSAA cutoff data

  • Source: opening and closing ranks published by JoSAA at josaa.nic.in, for every round of every year we list.
  • Ranks: IIT seats use JEE Advanced ranks; NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats use JEE Main ranks. OPEN seats use the Common Rank List (CRL); EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD seats use the corresponding category rank. B.Arch and B.Planning seats use JEE Main Paper 2 ranks and are excluded from Paper 1 comparisons.
  • “P” ranks are preparatory-course ranks for PwD candidates and are shown but not used in predictions.

JoSAA data on JEEInfo: 2024, 2025, 2026 (all rounds), from josaa.nic.in.

College predictor

  • Compares your rank with the final-round closing rank of the latest completed JoSAA year for every seat you are eligible for: category, PwD status, gender pool (female candidates also compete for female-only supernumerary seats) and quota (All India, Home State, Other State, and the Goa, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh quotas).
  • Home State is matched to the state where the institute is located. A few institutes define home state differently; check the JoSAA business rules for your case.
  • Chance bands: High when your rank is within 80% of the closing rank; Good when it is at or better than the closing rank; Borderline when it is up to 15% worse.

Marks, percentile and rank estimates

  • Marks to percentile: built from published shift-wise marks vs percentile data for all 18 JEE Main 2026 shifts. For each percentile we take the spread of marks across shifts: easy = upper quartile to maximum, moderate = middle half, tough = minimum to lower quartile. Values between anchor points are interpolated. Rows below 90 percentile are estimates.
  • Percentile to rank: rank ≈ (100 − percentile) × total candidates ÷ 100, using about 15.5 lakh unique JEE Main 2026 candidates.
  • Limits: estimates are less reliable at the extremes and in years when paper difficulty or candidate numbers change sharply. Your official rank comes only from NTA.

Version history
