Quick answer

Only the top 2,50,000 JEE Main Paper 1 candidates (across categories) can register for JEE Advanced, on jeeadv.ac.in, in a short window soon after the JEE Main final result. In 2026 registration ran from 23 April to 2 May (fee by 4 May), the fee was ₹1,600 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates and ₹3,200 for others, and you upload your Class 10 and 12 certificates plus category or PwD certificates, which must be recent. Keep them ready before the JEE Main result.

Eligibility in brief

  • Rank: among the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main Paper 1, including all categories.
  • Age: for 2026, born on or after 1 October 2001 (five years’ relaxation for SC, ST and PwD).
  • Attempts: at most two, in two consecutive years.
  • Previous IIT admission: candidates who accepted an IIT seat earlier are generally not eligible. Full rules: JEE Advanced eligibility.

Choosing exam cities

You must choose ten cities or towns from the list in the registration portal. IITs try to allot one of them but may allot another in exceptional cases, and city changes are not accepted. List cities you can actually reach by early morning on exam day, nearest first.

Before the exam, read the exam day guide: what to carry, the dress code and what is not allowed.
