JEE Main Chapter Priority and Prerequisite Map

Which chapters to study first in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, what each depends on, and which are quick to score.

Quick answer

Do foundation chapters first, because later chapters depend on them: units and kinematics, laws of motion and work-energy in Physics; mole concept, atomic structure and bonding in Chemistry; functions, trigonometry and limits in Mathematics. Then take high-return chapters that are quick to learn and well tested, and only then the long chapters. NTA does not publish weightage, so this map is about order and dependency, not exact marks.

How to read the tables: Foundation chapters are needed by many others; High return chapters are direct, formula- or fact-based and quick to master; Long build chapters take more time and practice. “Needs first” lists what to study before that chapter. Unit names follow the official JEE Main syllabus.

How to use this map

  1. Weak in a foundation chapter? Fix it before anything that needs it. A weak base makes every later chapter slower.
  2. Short on time? Take high-return chapters you have not done yet: they repay a few days of work.
  3. Long-build chapters need steady weekly practice; do not leave them all for the end.
  4. After each chapter, solve its previous-year questions and log mistakes in the tracker.
Which chapters should I study first for JEE Main?

Foundation chapters that others depend on: kinematics, laws of motion and work-energy; mole concept, atomic structure and bonding; functions, trigonometry and limits. Then high-return chapters, then long-build ones.

Does NTA publish chapter-wise weightage?

No. Weightage tables online are estimates from past papers. Every unit in the official syllabus can be asked, so use priority to decide order, not to skip chapters.

Which Chemistry chapters are fastest to score?

NCERT-based Inorganic chapters (p-, d- and f-block, coordination compounds), Biomolecules, Solutions and Chemical Kinetics are usually the quickest to turn into marks.
