JEE Preparation in Class 12: Month-by-Month Roadmap

Finishing Class 12, keeping Class 11 revised, boards and both JEE Main sessions, planned month by month.

Quick answer

Class 12 has three jobs: finish the Class 12 syllabus by about November, keep Class 11 revised (about one-third of your weekly time), and prepare for boards without losing JEE practice. From December, switch to full mocks and PYQs for the January session, take a short board-focused phase before the board exams, and use the gap before the April session for targeted improvement.

The year at a glance

MonthsFocus
April – AugustClass 12 chapters at JEE level, plus two or three Class 11 chapters revised each month with PYQs
September – NovemberFinish Class 12; fortnightly full mocks; JEE Main registration (October–November)
December – JanuaryFull mocks and PYQ papers; final revision for JEE Main Session 1
February – MarchBoard exams: board-style writing practice, NCERT and sample papers (see boards and JEE)
March – AprilTargeted fixes from Session 1 analysis; mocks for Session 2
April – MayJEE Advanced preparation if you qualify; registration right after the JEE Main result

Keeping Class 11 alive

Many Class 12 students lose marks because Class 11 fades. Give it fixed time every week: one Class 11 chapter’s PYQs on two weekdays, and Class 11 questions in every mock. If Class 11 was weak, read what to do if Class 11 was wasted.

Practical checkpoints

  • October: registration done, all Class 12 Physics and Chemistry at least once.
  • November: full syllabus done once; mock scores logged in the tracker.
  • After Session 1: check your percentile on marks vs percentile and plan Session 2 around your error log.
  • Boards: you need 75% (65% for SC/ST) or a top-20-percentile board result for NIT, IIIT, GFTI and IIT admission.
How do I prepare for JEE in Class 12 along with boards?

Study Class 12 chapters at JEE level through the year, which also covers boards, keep Class 11 revised weekly, and take a short board-focused phase before the board exams for writing practice and NCERT.

When should I finish the syllabus in Class 12?

Aim for November, so December and January can go to full mocks and revision before Session 1.
