Quick answer
The JoSAA seat matrix lists how many seats every programme at every IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI has, split by quota (All India, Home State, Other State), category (OPEN, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD) and gender pool (gender-neutral or female-only). The totals for this year are below; each college page shows its programme-wise seats.

How seats are divided
- Quota: at NITs, half the seats are Home State (for students whose Class 12 is from that state) and half Other State. IITs, IIITs and most GFTIs have All India seats.
- Category: central reservation applies within each quota: 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC-NCL and 10% EWS, with 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates in every category.
- Female-only seats: supernumerary seats are added so that female candidates make up a target share of each programme. Female candidates compete for both gender-neutral and female-only seats.
- Why it matters: a programme with few seats in your category and quota can close at a very different rank from the headline cutoff. Check both the seats and the closing rank before you order your choices.
Use this with cutoffs by branch and the choice-list builder. The full process is in our JoSAA counselling guide.
